Earthquake is very known by everyone of us for being
destructive and devastating. This kind of disaster is very dangerous and can’t
be controlled. This may cause destruction of large no. of properties,
establishments, houses and most importantly, this tragedy may cause large no.
of lives. Earthquake is defined as sudden and violent shaking of the ground, as
a result of movements within the earth’s crust or interior or ant volcanic
eruption.
The Philippines is located just
along the Pacific Ring of Fire, which causes the country to have a frequent
seismic and volcanic activity. Many earthquakes of smaller magnitude occur very
regularly due to the meeting of major tectonic plates in the region. The very
known Luzon earthquake to ever strike the country occurred in several areas of
Central Luzon and Cordillera region. The 7.8-magnitude tremor resulted in total
of 1,621 deaths and serious damage in properties. Now, our country is preparing
for “The Big One” that the Civil of Defense and other government agencies to
conduct series of earthquake drills. This is a deadly tragedy that we must need
to be prepared because in just a single snap, lot of lives may be lost and properties
may be destroyed. The Simultaneous Earthquake Drill is conducted by the
different national and local agencies. It seeks to strengthen the mechanism for
national and regional coordination, as well as the interoperability of key
players. This also aims to intensity local community earthquake preparedness
and increase the commitment of local government units in building safe
communities. We must be ready rather than having regrets and guilt in the end.
